Curatorial Statement

What does it mean to gather? To gather around, to gather together, to assemble, to accumulate—it’s about closeness and community.

This year’s fall art show, Gather, celebrates the act of coming together through the appreciation of original art by local and regional Canadian artists. It highlights the myriad ways in which we gather—whether it’s people, information, or ideas.

Gathering evokes social practices, rituals, and festive events that are central to every culture, religion, family, and individual. These practices reinforce a sense of identity and continuity within communities. Artists, as members of their own cultures and communities, are adept at communicating ideas and perspectives that invite us to connect and reflect.

Through their art, artists gather concepts and present them in ways that foster open dialogue. Each artist’s practice asks its questions, formulating ideas that drive them to create and connect with their audience. This exhibition links artistic practice with viewer experience, celebrating art’s unique storytelling power.

Visitors to this fall fine art exhibition will enjoy a collector’s preview of Crescent Hill’s fall collection of original works. The pieces span various materials and subjects, yet all represent fresh explorations in color, subject matter, and style.

We aim to celebrate our community of artists and art enthusiasts in a world that often leans towards individualism. This autumn, we invite you to gather with us as we launch a new season of creativity and fearless visual exploration at the Gather fall art show.
